MC Serch - Definition and Overview

MC Serch (born Michael Berrin) is an American rapper and former member of the crew 3rd Bass. After two extremely acclaimed albums with the other members of his crew (DJ Richie Rich and Pete Nice), The Cactus Album (1989) and Derelicts of Dialect (1991), Serch launched a solo career with Return of the Product (1992, Def Jam), which launched a hit single with "Back to the Grill", an extension of Main Source's song and featuring Nas. Serch also collaborated with Nas on Illmatic, which is one of the most critically well-respected albums of the 1990s. Serch then retired from performing and ran a promotions company, as well as becoming a radio host. He was the first white DJ at Detroit's WJLB station since Casey Kasem in the 1950s.
