Madeline Astor - Definition and Overview |
|
|
Madeleine Talmage Astor Dick Fiermonte (19 June 1894-27 March 1940), was the daughter of William H. Force and his wife, Katherine. She was born in Brooklyn, and at age 18, became the second wife of the American millionaire and inventor John Jacob Astor IV, whom she married in Newport, Rhode Island on 9 September 1911. She survived the Titanic sinking, unlike her husband. She was seven months pregnant (with John Jacob Astor IV) in 1912 when she was placed gently in lifeboat number four by her husband. Astor's will provided for a tidy pension (income of a trust fund of $5,000,000) with the proviso that she not remarry; however she did and lost her stipend.
She married William K. Dick, a banker, on 22 June 1916. By him she had two additional sons. They divorced in June 1933.
She married Enzo Fiermonte, an Italian boxer, in November 1933. She divorced him in 1938.
She died in Palm Beach, Florida, and is buried in Trinity Church Cemetery in New York City.
