Mehmed V Resad or Mahommed V, (November 2 1844 – July 3 1918), known as Reshid Effendi or Mehmed Resad before accession, was the sultan of the Ottoman empire from April 27 1909 to 1918 after his elder brother Abdul-Hamid II was forced to abdicate. Constantinople was under military occupation at the time of Mehmed's death there (it was also his birthplace). See also: Young Turks.
