Malcolm Reynolds is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Firefly. In the series, Reynolds is the captain of the firefly-class spaceship Serenity. He was brought up on a ranch on the planet Shadow (presumably in the outer reaches of the system). Later he was a soldier for the independence and he fought in the unification war in which the alliance, including the battle for serenity valley. It was here that he met his loyal second-in-command Zoë. After the overwhelming defeat of the independence he traveled to the more primitive distant planets, and acquired a ship. He is very protective about his crew.
