The music of Mana ERG is hard to describe and hard to file, being, as it is, a genre-defying blend of industrial, ethereal, ebm, electronica, and rock elements. It is like an intriguing journey where quiet phrases can at any moment give in to explosive outbursts: clean breakbeats can unexpectedly and immediately be replaced with completely different distorted percussive loops. Processed noise and distorted industrial guitar riffing will abruptly give way to mellow ethereal passages with operatic vocals. While this would normally seem a bit contrived and gimmicky, perhaps being considered an attempt at pretentious experimentalism, it works to the bands advantage, creating a dizzying and ever-changing experimental yet coherent musical world. The project is the brainchild of Bruno De Angelis, a multi-instrumentalist and former sound engineer, who gained invaluable experience in recording and producing bands playing very different genres, while remaining slightly detached from any fashionable trend, and always retaining his own distinctive style. Brunos closest collaborators, who also assist him in the production, are Joe Erber (piano and keyboards) and Tiberio (guitars), but quite often they are joined by special guests such as soprano Deborah Roberts, who, with her crystal clear and yet warm vocals, adds an ethereal and dream-like touch to the sound. Other notable friends and collaborators are sound manipulator Antonym (who once played for Scorn), russian composer Artemiy Artemiev, electronic music guru Dieter Moebius, and Attritions mastermind Martin Bowes who mastered Mana ERGs latest CD The Blind Watchmaker .
