Mandya - Definition

Mandya is a city and district in Karnataka state of India. The name comes from a saint Mandavya. Mandya is 40 km from Mysore and 100 km from Bangalore. The district is home to the famous Brindavan Gardens, Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir, The Shivana Samudram waterfalls with their hydroelectricity generation plant, Srirangapatna (capital city of Tipu Sultan), and the Melukote temple. The Kaveri River is the main water source of Mandya, through Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir. Rice and sugarcane are the main crops. It is also called the Sugar Cup of Karnataka.
