The Manhattan School of Music is a college which offers programs leading to the bachelor of music degree, and graduate study at both the masters and doctorate level. The school is located in the Morningside Heights are of New York City, adjacent to the campus of Columbia University, where it has been since 1969.
The school was founded in 1917. It currently As of 2004 has about 275 faculty members, and about 800 students from about 40 different countries. About 25% are from New York, and another 15% are from other parts of the United States. Many of the students live in the school's residence hall. The school is a well known music conservatory, training musicians at the highest level for professional careers, and also has programs for members of its local community.
