The rectory is the title usually given to the building inhabited, or formerly inhabited, by the vicar of a parish. The practice of providing accommodation to vicars of an area is still extant but many of the previous buildings with the title rectory have already been sold off by the church but the title of the building remains. There are a vast number of rectories given the number of parishes in England alone. Sometimes a rectory is called a Manse. |
