Marcus Allen - Definition and Overview

Marcus LeMarr Allen (b. March 26, 1960 at San Diego, California)

Marcus Allen is a retired American football player, now affiliated with CBS as a game analyst.

He was a quarterback at Abraham Lincoln high school in San Diego, California, then a running back at University of Southern California, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1981 by being the first college player to cover more than 2,000 yards in one season. His senior year was finished with a total of 2,342 yards.

Professionally, he played with both the Los Angeles Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs. As a professional, Allen ran for 12,243 yards. He scored 145 touchdowns including a then league record 123 rushing touchdowns.

Allen is best remembered for his heroics in Super Bowl XVIII. He ran for 191 in the Raiders 38-9 victory over the Washington Redskins. This included a 75 yard touchdown run, a record that still stands for the longest run in Super Bowl history.

Allen's brother Damon Allen is a legendary player in the Canadian Football League. Marcus Allen was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
