Mardin Province, a province of Turkey. Mardin is an Aramaic word (ܡܶܪܕܺܝܢ) and means "fortresses". Many aramaic people originates from here. They are known to their dialect Mardelli. The Mardin Province is inhabited by turks, kurds and aramaic people. Two of the oldest monasteries in the world are located there (Dayro d'Mor Hananyo and Dayro d'Mor Gabriel). The province area is also called Tur Abdin. |
