Maricopa, Arizona - Definition and Overview

Maricopa is a city (during the 2000 census was a census-designated place) located in Pinal County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,040.

The city was officially incorporated on October 15, 2003, becoming the 88th incorporated city in Arizona. Due to rapid growth, a special census was completed Saturday, March 13, 2004 which showed a population of 4,961.

Maricopa is located at 33°3'24" North, 112°2'48" West (33.056702, -112.046656)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,040 people, 292 households, and 226 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 99.4/km² (257.6/mi²). There are 329 housing units at an average density of 31.4/km² (81.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 46.35% White, 3.08% Black or African American, 6.63% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 40.00% from other races, and 3.94% from two or more races. 70.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 292 households out of which 46.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% are married couples living together, 14.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.3% are non-families. 13.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.56 and the average family size is 3.85.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 34.3% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 16.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 122.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 125.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $30,625, and the median income for a family is $32,222. Males have a median income of $26,339 versus $16,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $9,175. 23.4% of the population and 19.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 31.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
