Mark Eaton (basketball player) - Definition and Overview |
Mark Eaton (born January 24, 1957 in Westminster, California) is a former NBA basketball player.
He played his entire career, from 1982 through 1994, with the Utah Jazz. While he was not very strong offensively, at 7'4", he was one of the most effective defensive players the game has seen. Magic Johnson has been quoted as saying, "If you're going to go into the paint, you're going to have to deal with Mark Eaton." When back problems forced his retirement in 1994, he joined the Jazz broadcast team. He currently holds an NBA record for the best career blocks/game at 3.5, and is second on the all time total blocks list.
Eaton's #53 jersey has been retired by the Jazz.
