Marne is a region in France. Within it is the subregion of Champagne, known for its sparkling wines.
Marne is a département in northeastern France named after the Marne River. Marne was also the site of two battles. The first battle was the turning point of World War I, fought in 1914. The second battle was fought four years later, in 1918.
HistoryMarne was one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790. It was created from the province of Champagne.
