England: Peters earned 67 caps for England between 1966 and 1974 scoring 20 goals making him the 17th highest ranked scorer, of course he is one of only two England scorers in a World Cup final. The England manager of the time, Sir Alf Ramsey said that Peters was 10 years ahead of his time with his ability to drift unseen into dangerous positions and his skill at reading the game.

West Ham: Peters started his career with the London team West Ham making his debut in 1960. In his 302 league appearances he scored 81 goals also winning the European Cup Winners Cup. He played alongside some of the best ever Hammers including Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst, fellow 1966 World Cup winners. During his time at West Ham Peters played in every position for the club including goalkeeper.

Spurs: In 1970 Peters moved across London to Spurs for a transfer fee of £220,000 plus Jimmy Greaves. He played 189 games for Spurs scoring 46 goals and winning two League Cups and one UEFA Cup.

Norwich: In 1975 Peters moved on to Norwich for a fee of £50,000 playing 232 games for them and scoring 50 goals. In a poll of the teams fans in the 1990s he was the top vote getter for a place on the all time best Norwich team with 71% of the fans naming him.

Sheffield United: Peters joined Sheffield Utd in 1980 as player-manager playing 24 games for them and scoring 3 goals.

Peters was not successful as a coach and did not attempt to follow this avenue as a career instead turning to the insurance business. In 1998 he joined the director's board at Spurs.
