The meaning of the word match grade initially is "something suitable for a match", i.e. able to compete with others.
In firearms, the term is used to distinguish between expensive and accurate ammunition as well as gun parts, which are designed not to vary more than one millimetre when fired from a bench rest, from the cheaper and less accurate ones.
Match grade equipment is thus usually only used by professionals, and not exactly intended for amateurs.
