Matins is the morning prayer service in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodoxliturgies of the canonical hours. The term is also used in some Protestant denominations to describe morning services. More recently, Matins has been suppressed in the Catholic Church with the hour of Lauds taking its place.
