Matt Clement [clu-MENT] (born August 12, 1974 in McCandless Township, Pennsylvania) is an American right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays with the Boston Red Sox. Previously, he played for the San Diego Padres (1998-2000), Florida Marlins (2001) and Chicago Cubs (2002-04). Clement bats and throws righ-handed. He was signed by the Red Sox as a free agent before the 2005 season. Clement is a fine pitcher who has a sinking fastball in the low 90s and a hard slider, he mixes with a four-seamer and a changeup. He has held opposing batters to a .223 batting average from 2002-04, while posting a 35-36 record and 3.80 ERA. In 2004, he had a 3.68 ERA but went just 9-13 for the Cubs, who gave him just 4.03 runs of support, the sixth-lowest mark in the National League. Against American League teams in interleague play, he has posted a 7-7 record and 3.60 ERA in 19 starts. In a 7-year career, Clement has compiled a 69-75 record with 1028 strikeouts and a 4.34 ERA in 1156.1 innings. External links
