Maurice Tempelsman (born August 26, 1929) was the long-time companion of First Lady Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. The two began their relationship in the late 1970s, shortly after the death of "Jackie's" wealthy second husband, shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. Tempelsman soon moved into Jackie's Fifth Avenue apartment in New York City. The couple frequently took walks through Central Park and were photographed doing so, literally, in the final days of Jackie's life. Jacqueline Onassis died May 19, 1994, of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer. Tempelsman assumed responsibility for looking after Jacqueline's grown children, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and John F. Kennedy Jr..
Tempelsman is Jewish and a former diamond merchant and industrialist.
