Derived from the earlier Gewehr 98, the Mauser Kar 98k was a German bolt action rifle, modified after the First World War to be shorter and easier to handle, hence the designation Karibiner 98 Kurz, meaning Short Carbine Model 98. Standard issue until the end of the Second World War in the German and various other Axis armies, it was chambered in 7.92mm, fed by a 5 round internal magazine.
The Kar 98k was often fitted with a scope and used by snipers.
