MaxDB - Definition and Overview

Currently known as MaxDB, SapDB is a database management system purchased by Sap (company) to act as the data repository for the SAP suite of applications. Prior to this purchase it had a few other names, and was originally Adabas - a pre-relational dbms.

Development of SapDB has been taken over by MySQL AB, the same company that develops the open-source MySQL database. The product has been renamed MaxDB and has been released under an open-source licenses.
