The area has a panoramic view of the eastern part of the Peloponnese including Nea Epidavros, Angistri and the small islands and the eastern part of Corinthia and parts of the southwestern aprt of Attica.
Underneath the village is the ancient Acropolis of Methana which was described by Pausanias. The village in the mid to late 20th century was called Katoundi Imati which derived from Albanian which also meant big or large village or big or large town.
