The Mercury Tracer was a subcompact Mercury car.
1987The 1987 Tracer replaced the Mercury Lynx. It was a rebadged version of the Ford Laser model already sold in Asia and Australia, which was itself a restyled Mazda 323. It was built in Hermosillo in Mexico. Engines: 1990The 1990 model was Mercury's version of the Ford Escort, which, like the Laser, was now based on the Mazda 323's Mazda B platform. The Tracer LTS was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1991. Engines: 1993The Tracer was restyled for 1993. Engines remained the same. 1996The Tracer and Escort were updated in 1996 with a much-changed exterior and a new engine. The platform remained the same as before. The Tracer was discontinued in 1999.
