Message forgery is the sending of a message trying to deceive the recipient as to whom the real sender is. It is a technical concept in cryptography. A common example is sending an spam message with the e-mail address belonging to someone else. A less common but more dangerous situation occurs when a cryptographic key is compromised. A message encrypted in the stolen key is likely to be accepted as authentic.
