Metroliner Metroliner

Metroliner - Definition

Metroliner is an Amtrak train service between Washington DC and New York in the United States. It started in 1968 under the Penn Central, but has been operated by Amtrak since 1971. Formerly some trains continued past New York City to New Haven, Connecticut.

AEM7 locomotives provide service on the Metroliner. The Metroliner is now being phased out in favor of the high-speed rail Acela service. The Acela trains are much quieter and this has caused a dilemma in the areas which ther train runs through. Some residents say it contributes to more fatal accidents.

There are frequent daily runs. Reserved seating is available and is usually required.
