Mettmann is a North-Rhine-Westphalian (Germany) city and the seat of the District of Mettmann. The city lies east of Düsseldorf and west of Wuppertal.

Sites of interest

The Neanderthal valley, famous for the Neandertal fossils first discovered there, is a popular place for excursions, including the museum displaying the human history. The historical old part of the town features a market place and typically castle-style mansions with black slate lining is also worth visiting. The old Buergermeisterei (town hall) accommodates a small local historical museum. In 2004 Mettmann celebrates its 1100th anniversary.
