Michael Heath (computer scientist) - Definition and Overview

Michael T. Heath is one of the leading minds in modern Computer Science and Scientific computing. He currently holds the Fulton Watson Copp Chair in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also the directory of the Department of Energy's Center for the Simulation of Advanced Rockets.

Dr. Heath received his Bachelors in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky, his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, and his Doctorate in Computer Science from Stanford University. Prior to his current career as a professor he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.

Dr. Heath's work has been instrumental not only in our understanding of numerical analysis and parallel computing, but also in contemporary media, as he was one of the primary consultants for Arthur C Clark's movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
