 Michael Walker (economist) - Definition 

Michael Walker is a Canadian economist. He is best known as the founder of the Fraser Institute.

He was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He earned a B.A. from St. Francis Xavier University, and went on to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. He worked at the Bank of Canada and the Federal Department of Finance, and taught at the University of Western Ontario and Carleton University.

A prominent spokeman in the media for economically conservative causes, he founded the Fraser Institute in 1974 with a grant from forestry giant MacMillan-Bloedel. Since then he has remained its Executive Director.
