Michele Raymond - Definition |

Michele Raymond is a Canadian historian and politician. She currently serves as Halifax Atlantic's NDP MLA. A Halifax-area resident since 1963, she received degrees from Yale and Dalhousie in law and history.
In her first attempt at political office, Raymond became MLA in 2003, replacing Robert Chisholm, who stepped down from office. Raised in Jollimore, she was able to use the support of voters in Spryfield and Harrietsfield, in order to win the election.
A local activist prior to becoming a politician, Raymond founded the Urban Farm Museum Society of Spryfield, and has been part of a campaign to reactivate the Northwest Arm Ferry. She worked with the Nova Scotia Museum and is also the vice-president of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and has also worked with various heritage societies around Nova Scotia.
As an author and historian, she co-authored a book on the Northwest Arm, and was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal. She has two teenage daughters.
