Milagai Podi literally translates to chilli powder in Tamil. It is actually a blend of roasted pulses, spices and chilli that is ground to a powder. This is stored for use in the future.
Milagai Podi is used as a usual accompaniment to Idli, Dosa and many other dishes in Tamil Nadu, a southern state of India. A spoonful of the stored powder is mixed with melted ghee or cooking oil and used like a chutney.
