Minami-arupusu, Yamanashi - Definition and Overview

Minami-arupusu (南アルプス市; -shi) is a city located in Yamanashi, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 71,071 and the density of 269.15 persons per km². The total area is 264.06 km².

Minami-arupusu is literally South Alps (of Japan), which is named in a simile of European Alps. This city is located at the east foot of the mountains.

History

The city was established in April 1, 2003, by merging four towns and two villages:

  • Shirane
  • Wakakusa
  • Kushigata
  • Kouzai
  • Hatta
  • Ashiyasu
