Mine can refer to a number of things:
- Mines are tunnels used in mining for extraction of resources.
- In medieval times, a mine was a tunnel dug under a castle wall to make it collapse. This was known as undermining or sapping. These tunnels were sometimes packed with explosives, leading to its modern military meaning:
- Mines are stationary self-contained explosive devices used for military purposes:
- Landmines which are devices placed on the ground to destroy enemy vehicles and kill enemy soldiers who move over them.
- Naval mines which are devices used for the same puposes as landmines but destroy sea-going vessels.
- Claymore mines which are military weapons that fire shrapnel and are used for ambush.
