Minimalist trance - Definition and Overview

An emerging style of electronic trance music developed in the early 2000s, minimalist trance is an amalgamation of psychedelic trance and progressive music, pioneered by Daniel Vernunft with his acclaimed Shiva Chandra identity. Darker and edgier than mainstream/progressive trance, and slower, less 'busy' or more progressive than psychedelic trance, the minimalist movement owes much of its heritage from ex-techno artists. Progressive/minimalist music is often described as jovial and bouncy, appropriate at the beginning or end of a party. Currently, Denmark, Sweden and Germany hold the most renowned minimalist labels.
