 Minnesota Daily - Definition

The Minnesota Daily is the campus newspaper of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, published every weekday while school is in session (though less frequently during the summer months). Published since 1900, the paper claims to be the largest student-run and student-written newspaper in the United States and the fourth-largest paper in the state of Minnesota. The paper is not directly run by the university, although some funding has come from the campus. It is available on and near campus for free, as it is largely funded by advertising. A typical edition has about a dozen pages, and a second section of similar size focusing on sports or the arts is frequently included. The Daily used a tabloid paper format for many years, but recently switched to a thin broadsheet format.

There have been a number of notable individuals to work at the paper, including former NAACP leader Roy Wilkins, and longtime CBS correspondent Harry Reasoner.

Stories by the Daily have been available on the Internet since about 1990, when plaintext articles were published via the Gopher protocol.
