Mira Road is a township in Thane district just north of the city of Mumbai.
Mira Road is the name of a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Western Railway railway line.
Mira road has fast developed into an important residential locality due to its proximity to Mumbai and lower cost of living. It is situated on the island of Salcette. A marshy creek divides Mira Road from Mumbai. Now Mira road is one of the largest populated towns in Asia.
Mira Road has a considerable forested area. Due to the close proximity of the forest, panthers have been active in the area killing people ocassionally.
Educational Institutions
- Royal College of Arts, Commerce and Science (founded in 1989).
- N.H English Academy school founded by Nazar Hussain is gaining popularity.
Sports
- United Sports Club in Shanti nagar was first started by Mr. Kishore Sharma. Ranji player Iqbal Thakur was the cricket coach of that club.
- Mira road sports club was opened in 2003 by Mr. muzaffar Hussain and again the coach there was Iqbal Thakur.
Crime
Mira Road often gets into the news for the wrong reasons such as the crime in the area. But now a days crime here has become very less, only fear is of the panthers near Kashimira near highway.
