"Money (That's What I Want)" is a 1959 hit single by Barrett Strong for the Anna label. Anna Records was owned by husband-and-wife team Gwen Gordy and Harvey Fuqua. Gwen's brother Berry Gordy had just established his Tamla (later Motown) label, and had Gwen release this single through her label in hopes of making it a national hit. The song, written by Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford, features Strong curtly demanding that money is what he needs, more than anything else. The signle became Motown's first hit, making it to #2 on the US R&B charts and #23 on the US pop charts. The song has been covered by a plethora of artists, including The Beatles, The Kingsmen, The Rolling Stones, and Motown labelmates The Supremes. It has also been featured in a number of feature films and television shows. For example, uber-rich cartoon character Montana Max lip-syncs the entire record in one episode of Tiny Toon Adventures.
