Mongo Santamaria was an Afro-Cuban drummer. His 1963 hit Watermelon Man was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. He is known for his impeccably subtle approach to drumming. He is most famous for being the composer of Afro Blue Impressions, as performed by John Coltrane.
