Montana Tech is a university located in Butte, Montana. It was founded in 1900, originally as a mining school. The "M" on Big Butte overlooking the city stands for Montana Tech and was built in 1910. In 1994 it joined the University of Montana System and became known as Montana Tech of The University of Montana.
The university specializes in mining and engineering, although it also has a humanities program. Indeed, all of the graduate programs offered have to do with mining and engineering. As of this writing, the total enrollment is 2232 students; 2142 are undergraduate students, 90 are graduate students. 87% of are from in-state, and 12% are from out of state.
