The moptop hairstyle is defined by a shaggy bowlcut (straight cut with a straight fringe), usually hanging over the ears.
The style was made famous by the band The Beatles in 1963. The style had been suggested to the band by artist Astrid Kirchherr, who adapted it from the French Caesar hairstyle.
During this peak of the fashion, some schools in the U.K. banned the style, believing it to be sign of social decay.
