A Motorcycle Club is synonomous with motorcycle gang and is the preferred term used by club members themselves. The initials MC are often incorporated into or along with the club insignia worn on the members' vests. A motorcycle club generally limits membership to those people whose primary mode of transportation is the motorcycle. A motorcycle club revolves around motorcycles and the transient lifestyle.
In contrast, a motorcycle association like Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) is built around a core characteristic other than motorcycles. An association such as CMA is primarily involved with Christian fellowship and evangelism. Motorcycles are secondary.
Another form of an association is a motorcycle group. These groups, such as the Harley Owners Group (HOG) [1] (http://www.hog.com), which is officially sponsored by Harley-Davidson, are not political or territorial, with a sole purpose of riding motorcycles.
Generally speaking, Clubs are not at odds with Associations.
