The Muisca was a South American tribe that lived mainly in modern day Cundinamarca and Boyacá highlands. They were farmers and artisans. Today remain sacred places like the lakes of Guatavita, Fuquene, Tota and Iguaque.
Guatavita is one of the many fabled locations of El Dorado, where local legends say a young girl broke a pot, and from there water flowed and the lake was made. It is said futher that later, during the Spanish conquest, the locals threw their wealth into the lake to avoid from being discovered by the conquerors.
