Mumbai Conurbation - Definition and Overview

The Mumbai Conurbation comprises the metropolitan city of Mumbai, its six sister cities - Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivali, Ulhasnagar and Bhiwandi-Nizampur as well as several other towns and villages. The region is administered by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (M.M.R.D.A.). The M.M.R.D.A. takes care of planning and infrastructure aspect, while the day-to-administration is undertaken by the seven Municipal Corporations and other local authorities.
