Munakata (宗像市; -shi) is a city located in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan between Fukuoka city and Kitakyushu city.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 92,818 and the density of 832.45 persons per km². The total area is 111.50 km².

The city was founded on April 1, 1981.
