It is situated between the Danube (in the south and east), the Carpathian Mountains and Moldavia (in the north), and the Olt in the west. The latter river is the border between Muntenia and Oltenia, or Lesser Wallachia.
The capital of Romania, Bucharest, is situated in Muntenia.
