Murayama Tomiichi - Definition and Overview

Tomiichi Murayama (村山 富市 Murayama Tomiichi) (born in 1924) was the 81st Prime Minister of Japan from June 30, 1994 to January 11, 1996 and was replaced by Ryutaro Hashimoto.

He was head of the Social Democratic Party.

He became Prime Minister on June 30, 1994. His government was criticised for not dealing quickly with the earthquake of Kobe, that hit Japan on January 17, 1995.

The terrorist attack in the Tokyo subways by the Aum Shinrikyo cult happened also during his government.

He apologised for the atrocities made during World War II.
