Murderkill River - Definition and Overview

The Murderkill River (also called Murderkill Creek) is a gently flowing river, approximately 19 mi (31 km) long, in central Delaware in the United States.

It rises in western Kent County, near Felton, approximately 15 mi (24 km) southwest of Dover. It flows generally east, through Killen Pond and the Murderkill Reservoir, then northeast, past Frederica, its head of navigation. It enters Delaware Bay at Bowers Beach.

The river has suffered a persistent pollution from eutrophication and organic waste in agricultural runoff. Its estuary is considered to have abnormally low rates of dissolved oxygen.
