Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (or Naxçıvan Muxtar Respublikası) is an exclave of Azerbaijan. The area of 5,500 km² borders Armenia (221 km), Turkey (9 km) and Iran (179 km).
It consists of 5 rayons: Babek, Julfa, Ordubad, Sadarak and Shahbuz.
The main city is Nakhchivan (Nakhichevan), home to the Nakhchivan State University.
According to the TRNC Foreign Ministry, this enclave is the only other political entity (apart from Turkey) to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a sovereign state, though this is not officially acknowledged by the central government of Azerbaijan.
