Namli Maira is in fact collection of small hamlets (major being 'Namli' and 'Maira') nestled on mountain ridges about 20 Km from Abbottabad. A mettled road connects Namli Maira to main Abbottabad-Nathia Gali road near Azizabad (Hernoi) and is an alternate route to reach Nathia Gali from Abbottabad.
Namli Maira is surrounded by tall mountains. There was a time when much of the area's mountain slopes was covered with conifer forests teeming with wildlife. Excessive logging has denuded the hills of the forest cover. Presently, remenants of forests can be seen near the mountain peaks and places still beyond reach of humans. Nevertheless, quiet lush green vistas, fast-flowing streams and fragrance of pine trees make this place worth visiting.
Best time to visit Namli Maira is summer (June to August). During winters (October to April) heavy snows make the area inaccessible via road. (However, over the years, because of changes in weather patterns, heavy snowfall is becoming rare.) There are no places for overnight stay. A day trip for picnic by the side of the brook that speeds past Namli Maira is highly recommended.
