Nancy Farmer is a former State Treasurer of the U.S. state of Missouri, serving from 2001 to 2005. She was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for a seat in the United States Senate in 2004, running against incumbent Republican Kit Bond. Prior to her election State Treasurer in 2000, she served as Assistant Treasurer under then-State Treasurer Bob Holden since 1997. she was the first woman to hold both posts. From 1993 to 1997, she served in the Missouri House of Representatives. During her tenure in the state legislature, she served as chairwoman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, and on the Budget and Operations and Finance Committees.

Nancy Farmer is also an award-winning author of a 3 time national book award book "the house of scorpion"
