Nashville Superspeedway is a motor racing complex located in Lebanon, Tennessee, United States, about 48 km (30 miles) east of Nashville, Tennessee. It is a concrete oval track 2.145 km (1.333 miles) in length. Nashville Superspeedway is owned by the same organization that owns Dover International Speedway, a NASCAR Nextel Cup venue which is also all concrete.
The track was built in 2001 and currently hosts four major races: two NASCAR Busch Series races, an Indy Racing League event, and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Current permanent seating capacity is approximately 50,000 [1] (http://www.nashvillesuperspeedway.com/aboutUs.html). Additional portable seats are brought in for some events, and the facility is said to have been designed in a way that it would be relatively simple to increase the seating capacity to 150,000. Partly because of this there has always been speculation that this facility was built primarily with an eye to bringing Cup-level NASCAR racing back to the Nashville area. However, NASCAR has little interest in staging more events in the Southeast and in fact is taking steps to reduce the number of them held in that region and spread them more evenly throughout the United States, and the track ownership has shown no inclination to move either of its two currently very successful races away from Dover.
