Nationalist Party of Australia - Definition and Overview |
|
|
The Nationalist Party of Australia was an Australian political party formed in 1917 from a merger of pro-conscription members of the Labor Party (who had been operating under the banner 'National Labor' after their earlier split with the Labor party) with the Commonwealth Liberal Party. The Nationalist Party ceased to exist as a real force following the defeat of the Bruce-Page Government in 1929 and was replaced as the main right wing party of Australian politics by the United Australia Party.
